Our treasure hunts take us all over India, including to some of the most remote, rural communities. Whilst it’s exciting sourcing beautifully crafted products, we are always mindful and committed to ensuring that those who make our products enjoy the same equality we would expect for ourselves.

Before any new product is considered we conduct a fair amount of research online, including contacting suppliers directly to gage whether we can work with them. This can take several months. Once we establish we can communicate easily, we arrange to visit them over a period of several days to a week meeting and talking with the owners and artisans. We fully immerse ourselves in the environment and are almost always invited to eat or even sleep overnight! We try and understand how they work, what impact they make on artisan communities and how we as a brand can promote their beautiful textiles globally whilst helping them make a difference to the lives of artisans.

Jewelled Buddha Ethical Policy

  • We talk to artisans to ensure they are working of their own free will, have been positively impacted by the wage they receive and if they have access to health care and education for their children

  • We ensure they work in a safe environment and have regular flexible working hours and holidays

  • We ensure no children are employed under the age of 16

  • We actively look for social enterprises who specifically take an active and engaging role in women empowerment issues, gender equality and social equality

  • We do not work with large factories or organisations where it would be difficult to monitor the treatment of its workers

  • We work with small batch producers, artisan communities, women’s cooperatives and social enterprises

  • We don’t work with or tolerate the inhumane, unjust treatment of artisans or employees
