The Things I Love This Summer

I love the summer. People are so much happier. We all smile more and feel more positive about life. It's the time of the year when thoughts of holidays take over our dreams and we just can't wait to shed our layers of clothing, walk barefoot on a beach and jump into a endless ocean of turquoise. It's the season of new beginnings, where we leave old habits in the past, eat more healthy, get fit and live for the moment. From ice-creams by the sea, spontaneous bbq's and picnics in the park to crazy festivals, summer dresses and al fresco dining. So I decided to dedicate this blog to some of the things I love this summer.

Happy Summer Holidays!

Party Pleaser - Make your own summer cocktail.

I'd never tried a spritz until I went to Venice a couple of months ago. Now, I'm hooked on this classic Italian cocktail that goes down so well. Refreshing and low in alcohol, a spritz combines prosecco with Aperol - a bright orange aperitif made from an infusion of bitter and sweet oranges, herbs and rhubarb. (who would have known)!  A spritz is THE summer drink and so easy to make. So here's how to impress your friends at your next barbeque.

In a large glass - Add lots of ice, 3 parts Cinzano Prosecco. 2 parts of Aperol and a Splash of Soda. Finish with a slice of orange or a green olive. Cheers!

Go Al Fresco

Sushisamba - Japanese.

The sun is well and truly shining, so it's time to join our continental neighbours and partake in some al fresco eating. Why not hit the coolest place in London - Sushisamba. Europe's highest and most impressive al fresco dining place. Thirty nine-floors high, Sushisamba will serve you amazing Japanese food while you sit back and enjoy the view. 110 Bishopsgate, London, EC2N 4AY

The Modern Pantry - Clerkenwell

You could eat your way round the clock at this pretty Clerkenwell cafe. The unique menu offers a decadent choice of breakfast, lunch and dinner with an afternoon tea that has a serious wow factor. 47-48 St John Square, Clerkenwell, EC1V 4JJ

Summer in a Stick

Feast your eyes on these oh so pretty lipsticks. It seems everyone is going crazy over these floral tubes of loveliness! Made by Kailijumei - an Asian make-up distributor, these moisturising jelly lipsticks are flecked with gold and finished with a real tiny flower in the centre. What's more, they actually change colour according to your body temperature going from sheer to a darker pink. I think they're perfect for that glowing summer look. It's not surprising their popularity has sparked a a lot of fakes on the market so beware. Retailing at around $25-$30 and available in a variety of shades, you'll have to snap these luscious lippies up fast! I want one!

Hit a Music Festival

Summer isn't summer if you've not been to at least one music festival. So here's my top three:

V- Festival: 20th-21st August. Biggest names in rock and pop taking place in Staffordshire and Chelmsford.

The Big Feastival: 26th-28th August. The perfect combination of food and music set in the Cotswolds.

Big Kahuna:26th-28th August. A new festival that offers nineties ravers some nostalgia. Taking place in Horsham, West Sussex.

Ice-Cream Heaven

If you fancy something more grown up than a 99, then head down to Gelupo where you can indulge in some gelato. Savour some Ricotta, coffee and honey or fresh mint stracciatella. Piccadilly Circus, London.

Head down to Borough Market for some of the best gelato outside of Italy. 3bis Gelateria serves up a taste of artisan decadence with flavours such as panna cotta, marscapone and fig.  Made the finest Italian ingredients, you're guaranteed to get your ice cream fix. 4 Park St, London, SE1 9AB.

Head for the beach and watch the Rio Olympic Games

You don't even have to leave London for some sun, sand and Brazilian cocktails. Beach East at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is the UK's largest Fanzone for this years Rio Olympics. From the 6th - 21st August there will be live coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games so you can support Team GB while you sip on Mojito.  Boasting the largest urban beach, there are two huge paddling pools, funfairs, two beach bars and a whole host of events and activities for all the family. A perfect summers day out!
